Race For Hope 2011 Playlist

I thought about making my playlist for this weekend like 25 minutes, so I’d really haul ass because I’d run out of music otherwise. I gave myself 34 minutes of music, knowing I’ll start the music before I cross the starting line and I may skip ahead to songs. All these songs either mean something or get my ass MOVING. I’m stoked.

  1. Dream Big – David Cook
  2. East Coast Anthem – Good Charlotte
  3. Sassy – Katarina Graham
  4. All I Do Is Win – DJ Khalid
  5. Lose Yourself – Eminem
  6. When I Get You Alone – Glee/The Warblers
  7. Creep – Axium (David Cook)
  8. Don’t Stop Believin’ – Glee
  9. Fighter – Christina Aguilera

It’s crazy to think how “under-prepared” I was last year for this race (aka my first race). From what I wore, to the speed of the music of my playlist, to being confused by the timing chip, to navigating through the crowd, to making poor food and drink decisions the day before. I was very pleased despite everything how well it went, but this year I plan on making this race my bitch.

Song: These Arms of Mine. Artist: Otis Redding.

Wiley said this is the song that makes him think of me. I’m pretty sure my panties just dropped so hard that there is a whole in the floor halfway to china (that is a quote from How I Met Your Mother, but fitting nonetheless). He’s coming here tomorrow for the night because he can’t wait until Saturday to see me!

Lyrics:

These arms of mine, they are lonely,
Lonely and feeling blue.

These arms of mine, they are yearning,
Yearning from wanting you.

And if you would let them hold you,
Oh how grateful I will be.

These arms of mine, they are burning,
Burning from wanting you.

These arms of mine, they are wanting,
Wanting to hold you.

And if you would let them hold you,
Oh how grateful I will be.

Come on, come on please let them.
Just be my little woman.
Just be my lover.

I need me somebody, somebody to treat me right.
I need your arms, loving arms to hold me tight.

I need your, I need your tender lips, to hold me,
To hold me together when I’m around you.

Song: Sassy. Artist: Katerina Graham.

This song has been on most of my running mixes for the past couple of months and now the song is EXTRA fun because Wiley has taken to calling me SASSY and let’s face it I totally am. Below are some of the lyrics:

Mirror mirror on the wall
who’s the freshest one of all,
I think that I am sassy,
I know that I am.
Mirror mirror on the wall.
Sassy girl that’s what I’m called,
I think that I am sassy,
I know that I am.

I’m sassy, sassy as I wanna,
Picture perfect poster girl
yeah I’m off the wall.

Raise your hands my sexy girls,
my classy girl,
independent flashy girl.
got your own cash floss, rocks and pearls?
Ride your whip with your sassy girls?

My lipgloss to my fendi,
my rings they cost your bently.
I am a sassy girl, I am
I am a sassy girl, I am.
My gucci to my prada
Shimmer powder to mascara
I am a sassy girl, I am
I am a sassy girl, Who me?

Mirror mirror on the wall
who’s the freshest one of all,
I think that I am sassy,
I know that I am.
Mirror mirror on the wall.
Sassy girl that’s what I’m called,
I think that I am sassy,
I know that I am.

S-A-S-S-Y
Sassy as I wanna be,
Sassy as I wanna be,
Sassy as I wanna be.

Song: Teenage Dream. Artist: Glee Newcomer Darren Criss & Tufts University’s Beelzebubs on background vocals.

If for some reason you live under a rock and haven’t heard this yet, stop and listen. I am so behind on my tivo, however so many people were talking about this yesterday that I checked it out and have been listening to it like non-stop since.

Seriously a capella music is one of my FAVORITES and I’m a huge fan of this song despite not generally liking Katy Perry. I saw this quote today from former MTV VJ Dave Holmes: “I’ve done the calculations and there’s no getting around it- the a capella "Teenage Dream” from Glee is the greatest thing in human history.“

The more I think about the possible cultural impact of this song it excites me. This is a gay teen singing this song to another gay teen on a network show. Amazing. I hope that the people who are a fan of the song also realize the social impact as well. Mainstreaming a song centered about love and sex between 2 gay teens – I hope Glee keeps it up!

Love the top half of the quote – it makes me push harder and get stronger, as opposed to cry.

I’ve never seen it in picture form before. Sadly this picture is floating around the thinspo world, I wanted to alter it to make it appropriate for me.

People already notice me. I’m already special.

I’m just trying to take it to the next level. Perfect isn’t the best word, I just want to be the best version of myself. MIND.BODY.SOUL.

Hurts So Good

After work today I went and got a European Spa Pedicure, my feet and legs are in HEAVEN.

This weekend was redonk. I’m not even prepared to fully blog about it however 13.1 miles running + MILES and MILES of walking in New Orleans + wearing 6 inch heels around the uneven streets of NOLA a mere 10 hours after my half = SORE FEET

This could be the year.
This could be the moment
you’ve been waiting your whole life to show
the world the cards you’re holding.

It’s one life,
One dream,
One spark.
It’s one chance,
One move,
One shot.
It’s on you
Be cool,
Be real.

This could be the year.
This could be the moment
you’ve been waiting your whole life to show
the world the cards you’re holding.

It’s one life,
One wish,
One fire.
It’s one choice,
One voice,
Saying get higher.

This could be the year.
This could be the moment
you’ve been waiting your whole life to show
the world that you are ready.

Hold your head up high and touch the sky,
‘cause you know this is everything, everything.
Take your shot it’s all you’ve gotta be.

This could be the year.
This could be moment.
This could be the year, I know it.

This Could be the Year by Ryan Star.

2010 has been MY YEAR and I plan on owning 2011 and beyond as well!

Pre-Race Day!

I took my “mental health day” and it’s been glorious. I slept past noon!

I am currently working on my half playlist. I don’t think I’ll have time to post it all before I leave, but in honor of Halloween I have included “The Monster Mash” – I also have a bunch of songs from True Blood which takes place in Louisiana. I also am including some Rocky Horror Glee. I like to have suble themes in my playlists.

I know most of you won’t care, but there is a video on the race website of the route, I’m pretty stoked. Most of the run is on St. Charles street which I’ve heard nothing, but great things about. So check it out if you’s like http://www.jazzhalf.com/course

7am CST – I’ll be a running fool. I’m hoping to run it under 2:09:59. We shall see.

Then like 7pm CST I’ll be in drag and ready for some Halloween Hijinx.

I’m sure I’ll post some short posts from the ol’ Backberry this weekend, but I hope you all have a safe and fabulous Halloween weekend!

**Note: My race packet has been safely picked up and in the hands of my friend Melissa’s amazing friend Darlene!
