Yesterday I had planned to bike to my Monday running group, run 3 miles, and then bike back. I was a bit behind schedule and the weather looked ominous so I instead decided to drive to the running group and do the 5 mile run.
I’ve done 5 miles or more at this point hundreds of times, but I haven’t run more than 4 miles since April. I’m pretty sure my last distance of 5 or longer was the NYC half marathon in March.
I went out in the rain with my Garmin on the fritz – so I just used the stopwatch function to mind my pace since the .5, 1.5 and 2.5 mile markers for the out and back were flagged. Thank you Andrew McMahon and your Jack’s Mannequin/Something Corporate Emo-Punk to keep my pace fierce and me motivated.
There were maybe 50 of us out to run and most of the group opts for 3 miles, but there is aways a handful or two that opt for 5. I was the slowest of the 5 milers, but I didn’t care. I felt great. No walking breaks needed and I wasn’t obsessing over pace. I ended up with a 51:56 run which I was pretty stoked about.
