Tonight will be 2 months since I moved my phone charger from next to the bed – despite the fancy usb outlets that we purposely installed by the nightstands.
.
Only a handful of these nights even consisted of me using the phone in bed at all.
.
I’m far from perfect, 2 weeks ago I had a 2am phone-a-thon in my bed that I’m not proud of, but one in two months is a huge improvement.
.
Because the phone is plugged in on the other side of the room face down (as not not see the screen light up with any notification) or in the guest room, I’m not tempted to check it when I wake in the middle of the night naturally or to go to the bathroom.
.
I’m getting better sleep and not falling to to habits of distraction that led to my mind racing at bedtime. I keep a pen and Post-its next to the bed if I HAVE to write something down out of fear of forgetting.
.
The phone is still my alarm clock and I can hear it regardless if it’s in the same room as me. Plus getting out of bed to shut it off helps curb my instinct to “snooze” some days.
.
I really can’t encourage this small change enough. I didn’t realize how much I was reaching for the phone until it was out of reach.
