Great day hiking Old Rag with the Project Peak crew. We enjoyed our lunch on the summit and had a little photoshoot. A baby brown bear decided to join the summit party, but we didn’t stick around for fear of the mama we glimpsed not far behind! (at Shenandoah National Park)

After work I went to T’s to pick up his CamelBak for a work hike tomorrow at Old Rag. I pre-planned to run today’s miles on the trail near his place. I thankfully double checked my training plan and cranked out 4 miles (as opposed to the 3 I thought I was supposed to do). Despite the humidity I feel myself getting stronger. 10 training runs down, 61 to go!
Recap: Long Holiday Weekend
Warning: mostly me rambling about my exercise and food whilst in NY 😉
Thurs: 3 miles post work/pre-drive to Brooklyn. T brought our favorite gyros to eat before we hit the road (made it up in just over 4 hours).
Fri: 7 miles at the Long Beach Boardwalk before a full day of relaxing on the beach eating LI deli subs and drinking the new Coors Light Radlers (it’s good cheap bear I swear). Did a total of ~16miles with all the other walking involved with the day, including rallying to go to Manhattan for rooftop drinks followed by late night empanadas.
Sat: Spend the whole day at Coney Island (my first time ever). Watched the men’s and women’s Nathan’s hot dog eating contests. Ate a Nathan’s hot dog and fries, also ate White Castle, and had a rainbow italian ice! At Coney Island we went to the Sideshow, rode the Cyclone (it was amazeballs), went to the minor league Brooklyn Cyclones game and stayed for fireworks. Managed to rack up ~10 miles walking.
Sun: Brunch in Bushwick at this random dive bar (Tandem) then headed into Manhattan to aimless wander – Battery Park and South Street Seaport. Got a Mister Softee (I refused to have any other ice cream truck treats except for Mister Softee). Got in another ~7 miles walking. Drove back to DC in amazingly just over 4 hours (including EZpass drama – bastards).
Mon: Worked from home with a 10:30am “start time.” Quiet work day, really just Freddie hangout time. Kicked off week 3 of Marathon training with 3.1 sweaty ass miles.
Back on the healthy train after a carb filled holiday weekend
Got long run in! Now time to relax on the beach!
Is it 5pm yet?
I need this 3 day weekend to be here!
I went to yoga today at lunch then have 3 miles (7/71) to run before driving to Brooklyn with T.
Marathon Training Tips
- Quit your job
- Hire a personal trainer to make sure you’re training as expensively as possible
- Make sure you have a pair of new, comfortable running clogs
- Familiarize yourself with the course ahead of time so you’ll know how to direct ambulances to your location
- Carbo-load with plenty of pasta the night before you consider entering a marathon
- Try to run at least once before race day
- Staying hydrated is important, so be sure to drink plenty of bodily fluids
- Bear in mind that cramps are a signal you are about to die
- Visualize your success and how good it will feel to accomplish something hundreds of other people will accomplish before you that day
- Driving 26.2 miles is also an accomplishment of sorts
- Be sure to check with your doctor whether you have any health problems that could give you any excuse whatsoever not to do this
haha great laugh!
WIW
Last week: 204.6
Today: 201.6
Change: -3
Woohoo, progress feels so good! I’m determined for this trend to continue!
Talk about a reality check.
I regularly charted my weight at the beginning of my weight loss/fitness journey in January 2010. I had to search my tumblr to find the site where I even charted my weight (caloriecount.about.com) and luckily accessed my account (username/password on the first try – BOOM).
My last entry was 7/4/12 – I weighed 177.2
I just went through my tumblr since then and added every weigh in I posted.
This is the result.
I have a lot of work to do. I hope you are here to cheer me on!
My Birthday is 5 week from today!
I’m going to be 32 – I don’t feel 32.
However I’m weirdly looking forward to 33 since 3 is my favorite number.
