Looking forward to what 2015 has in store for me!

I don’t care if you like me or not, I have enough friends.

One of my head student leaders wrote me a sweet thank you note and included this gem that I said to him when we started working together last year!

Sloth and Gluttony

Good God this weekend was awesome. I managed to squeeze in SOME of my to do list, but I mostly spent the weekend on the couch with T and it was glorious.

Friday

  • After work I ran 3 miles with Freddie
  • Then had a very exciting networking call with a women in Southern California who works at a school I’m interested in work at
  • Went to T’s who has the apt to himself all weekend so I brought groceries and cooked him a healthy dinner there (I even got him to eat brussel sprouts – the key is a LOT of lemon pepper)
  • We then watched his favorite childhood Christmas movie Jingle All the Way (which I had never seen)
  • We then ate some yummy Pepperidge chocolate cake with cool whip (T was in charge of dessert)

Saturday (It was rainy and gross all day)

  • We slept in and snuggled
  • Went to Rustico for brunch mmm (we were sitting next to an older couple who were very lovey dovey and it lead to an enlightening conversation)
  • I then took T to my favorite little random shop – it’s actually called “The Variety Store” and we spent over an hour browsing. I picked up some little Christmas gifts and a gingerbread house because T said he had never decorated one!
  • We then braved the Pentagon City Mall to go to Bath and Body works to get Fresh Balsam candles since T is obsessed with the ones in my apt. I foolishly picked up a drugstore Christmas candle for his place and it just wan’t cutting it so we knew we had to hit the mall
  • While I the mall I was able to run into MAC to get mascara
  • We then stopped by Macy’s to look at winter coats. T is still wearing his North Face Fleece and it’s too cold. I found an awesome Kenneth Cole Peacoat that T loved, but they didn’t have a Large. Good news I did find it online so I hope he buys it! We also looked at Women’s coats because the one I bought online came, but I’m still on the fence and for $170 I really don’t want to be on the fence.
  • We spontaneously decided to continue our lazy weekend (we don’t usually spend 2 nights in a row together) so we swung by my apt to grab Freddie since I missed him and I grabbed some Christmas movies.
  • We came back to T’s and put on my all-time favorite Disney Christmas singalong from the 80s (which was remastered and includes new songs/cartoon which are nowhere near as good). We also watched “All I Want for Christmas” with Ethan Embry and Thora Birch another 90s favorite of mine
  • Together we put together the gingerbread house and decorated it which was really fun, T got into it. Pictures here
  • We then ate the leftovers from last night’s dinner and more dessert before T, Freddie and I all piled into bed.
  • T jokes about how Freddie likes him more and how Freddie is going to live with him. So while at T’s I have him the responsibility of walking Freddie hehe

Sunday

  • T and I were up early, maybe because we were in bed early and Freddie was jumping around
  • T lives in a little town center type thing so we walked down to the shops to grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich
  • We came back and watched some of The Office (one of his favorite shows) and HIMYM (one of my favorite shows). We are on season 3 of both.
  • I had grand plans to come home and run, but I bailed because it was cold and getting dark (however I’m forcing myself to do 5 treadmill miles after work today since I missed yesterday)
  • Instead I caught up on my neglected DVR and did my nails.
  • After having a super busy WEEK last week I didn’t mind a lazy weekend. I hope to find more of a balance this week/weekend.

Friday 5ive

  1. At 3:30pm I get to put up an out of office reply that I’m drafting as “Deuces bitches out I’m of the office until December"
  2. My sister is coming down to DC for the weekend since she won’t be home while I’m on Long Island next week.
  3. I’m introducing sister to boyfriend this weekend and he is taking us skeet shooting. I hope no one has to go to the hospital.
  4. I kicked ass on my to-do list and feel hella productive at work this week.
  5. Freddie is in the office with me today (as pictures earlier) which is always a win.

Bonus: who else remembers the 90s boy band 5ive of "Baby when the lights go out..” or “Can I get your number baby (hit me with your seven digits)” fame?

Weekend Recap

Friday

  • Pre-work 5K run with Freddie

  • Did my nails and caught up some more on DVR

Sadly today I have to work, but it is pretty quiet and I am getting things done so that’s….something.

9-11-01

I was 18 and 3 weeks into my freshman year of college.

I was born and bred New Yorker.

I was majoring broadcast journalism.

I truly experienced an instant loss of innocence watching those towers fall in my tiny dorm room tv.

I now live less than 5 miles from the Pentagon.

I’ve read the names and dates on each of the benches at the hauntingly beautiful Pentagon Memorial.

Not a day goes by when I don’t remember that two cities I love were dramatically changes on many level by the events of that day.

My thoughts are with the family and friends of all those who were lost or injured that day.

And I have immense gratitude toward our first responders who are heroic, brave, and selfless every single day.
