Banging out miles

I don’t know why I didn’t want to work out today. I went to the gym for a change of pace, but I had to force myself to get dressed, force myself to drive there, force myself to get out of the car and go in. But then once I do all is right in the world. I don’t know why I have days like that, but I’m glad I went.

I ran my intervals on a treadmill. 7 x 400s at 7.5 alternating with 5.5 – I was SWEATING SOMETHING FIERCE.

Then I stretched and did some weights while checking myself out in the mirror the whole time since it had been nearly 2 weeks since I went to the actual gym.

6 x 400s

I mapped out and kicked off my 5K speed training this week. I took 2 different PR programs which are 8 weeks each and turned them into one 4 week program.

There are 2 tracks on campus. One run down old one which I always went to and the sweet one Athletics currently uses. I never knew where the new track was so I asked around and went there. It was beautiful. I don’t know if I was “allowed” to run there, but it was empty and I ran anyway.

I did 2 warm up laps and then were going to run 6 laps (400m) at full speed with recovery laps in between. I was hoping for about 2 minutes and my first lap was 2:00.4 which I was really plased with. My laps varied from 2:03.4 to 2:00.1 (which was my last timed lap). I wish I could have cracked 2 minutes, but I’m pleased none the less. I look forward to weekly timed 400s.

I’m headed out on a 5 miler in a bit on this BEAU-tiful day.

Can the Roadrunner tame the Coyote?

I think W may be serious about shedding some weight. He’s made off hand comments about losing some of his gut before – which is really the only place he needs to lose. He has solid arms and phenomenal legs (I’m certain its because he’s a Sagittarius which is represented by the centaur and he’s definitely half horse from the waist down ifyouknowwhatimean).

The reason I think he may be serious this time because he went to the doctor yesterday and when they weighed him he was 10 pounds heavier than he thought he was (which was 15 pounds heavier than he’d like to be). So now he says he wants to lose 30 pounds and is asking me for advice.

I mean I’m happy to guide him, but I also fear I may get frustrated with him when he’s making poor decisions. I can understand the ignorance most people have about what they put in their bodies and I’m generally not frustrated when people don’t know better, but if I’m going to take the time to educate him I’d hate to watch him fail.

However I do think it’d be EASY for him to drop initial weight. I often ask him if he’s an elf because I’m pretty sure his diet consists exclusively of candy, candy corn, candy canes and syrup. To be fair it’s more like candy, beer, regular soda, cheese, and ranch dressing.

We shall see. I recently read that 3 major factors in a successful relationship are similar views on religion, drinking habits and diet.
