OKAY 5K

Ran in a 5K on campus this morning. I have missed the feeling of waking up early to run on a weekend with other crazy racing nuts! I was really anxious about today’s 5K because I know my speed isn’t where it should be.

The weather was beautiful and there was a good turn out for the run. I started at the front of the starting line and overexerted myself the first quarter mile (I was just so excited to be racing) running under a 8min/mile pace. Well the first of many hills kicked my ass, so I slowed down a bit at times, but never stopped to walk. My legs were a bit tight after a 4.5 mile run yesterday, but I pushed through the pain at found myself a solid pace.

I crossed the finish line at 29:09 – I had wanted under 30 minutes, but I secretly would have liked something in the 28 minute range. Considering I fell off the training wagon for a little bit I can’t complain and it just gives me more motivation to push myself.

The 5K was a good start to my “ME” weekend. I had a long to do list and this 5K was a great way to kick off a productive weekend.

Taking a ME Afternoon

Thanks to my tax refund hitting this week I’m taking this afternoon off from work to get some stuff done and also pamper myself.

The non glamorous things:

  • Taking the dog to the vet to get a shot
  • Picking up THE (orange) dress from the dry cleaners FINALLY – hoping they got the red wine puke off it
  • Going to the bank to get a certified check to pay my speeding ticket from December
  • Going to my tattoo place to get an appointment to get part of the MeasuringLife tattoo re-inked. The bottom of my “M” didn’t really take/hold the ink

However what is glorious:

  • Running outside today for the first time in weeks since it will be midday and hopefully not freezing
  • a mani/pedi after FAAAAR too long, I’m thinking of even getting a gel manicure
  • getting my hair cut and colored!

Finally this evening W gets here to kick off Valentine’s weekend. This is my first time ever having a “real” Valentine and I have a lot planned. I can’t wait 😀

Who needs a foam roller…

…when you have a boyfriend!

W thinks it’s so badass that I’m a runner and he wants to be good to my legs and feet and DAMN can that boy give a massage.

No joke. PAINGASMS like whoa.

I actually had a Charley Horse the other night and the next day he massaged my calves, it HURTS SO GOOD.

I have asked him on more than one occasion where the HELL he was in October when I was running two half marathons. Looks like marathon training will be far more pleasurable!

I’ve had many professional massages in my day, but all from women. Well let me tell you a man’s bigger and stronger hands are far superior when it comes to giving a massage.

Doctors Stamp Of Approval

Well the general physician and the lady doctor both cleared me for my full marathon training. Both were very supportive and congratulatory in regards to my running. The OBGYN did mention it’s important that I have 3 servings of calcium a day to keep my bones up to par because no basic blood work etc can really test that.

I’m glad I’m went and I’m even happier that I don’t need to go back for a year!

Realization

In all my previous and failed weight loss attempts I would RUN* so I could EAT.

These days I EAT so I can RUN.

It’s such a crazy mental shift, but running is THE most important thing to me right now. I make so many decisions based around running and I honestly wouldn’t have it any other way.

*I didn’t start actually running until this year, but I would use the elliptical, go to classes, etc.

Hurts So Good

After work today I went and got a European Spa Pedicure, my feet and legs are in HEAVEN.

This weekend was redonk. I’m not even prepared to fully blog about it however 13.1 miles running + MILES and MILES of walking in New Orleans + wearing 6 inch heels around the uneven streets of NOLA a mere 10 hours after my half = SORE FEET

Pre-Race Day!

I took my “mental health day” and it’s been glorious. I slept past noon!

I am currently working on my half playlist. I don’t think I’ll have time to post it all before I leave, but in honor of Halloween I have included “The Monster Mash” – I also have a bunch of songs from True Blood which takes place in Louisiana. I also am including some Rocky Horror Glee. I like to have suble themes in my playlists.

I know most of you won’t care, but there is a video on the race website of the route, I’m pretty stoked. Most of the run is on St. Charles street which I’ve heard nothing, but great things about. So check it out if you’s like http://www.jazzhalf.com/course

7am CST – I’ll be a running fool. I’m hoping to run it under 2:09:59. We shall see.

Then like 7pm CST I’ll be in drag and ready for some Halloween Hijinx.

I’m sure I’ll post some short posts from the ol’ Backberry this weekend, but I hope you all have a safe and fabulous Halloween weekend!

**Note: My race packet has been safely picked up and in the hands of my friend Melissa’s amazing friend Darlene!

Hello Doctor…

So in the next few weeks I have a new goal for myself. To go to the doctor.

I HATE doctors. Dread them. Get extremely worked up.

As I reflect on my hatred I think a lot of it stems from always being overweight and having the doctor tell you all these things about your body and blood and insides that you would rather ignore. Still I don’t think anybody likes to be poked and prodded, plus I hate the smell of doctors offices.

However I went for my body composition/cholesterol assessment last week, got great results and it was a positive experience.

It’s been a while since I’ve gone to get a physical or to the lady doctor and I think it’s time. I want to make sure I’m in good health and can take on full marathon training. My body means too much to me as a tool/instrument these days and I owe to myself to go to the doctor.

I’m thinking of making an appointment for the 2nd or 3rd week of Novemeber – Please keep me accountable!
