New Running Store

A new running store opened in town in late July. They are SERIOUS. All kinds of cool fitting processes and everything. I am for sure buying my next pair from them. I actually even just applied for a part-time job there, we shall see.

Tonight I will be going there for a Good Form Running Clinic. It was limited to 15 folks, so I’m excited to be one of them. I will be sure to share all the info I learn with you guys.

BOOKED

I just booked a hotel room for the Los Angeles Marathon in March. My hope and plan is to run it. I just hope that life doesn’t get in the way of that happening.

Even though I haven’t registered for the race (and prob won’t until late November) this means shit just got real.

This weekend I was at my sometimes boyfriend’s place. He lives in the middle of nowhere so I generally go to the local HS track if I have a run scheduled. I don’t love track running for general runs, but I do like them for interval training.

Anyway since I had my Garmin and it was a delightful day on Saturday I decided to run the backroads. It was weird to run on asphalt. Most of my running is on sidewalks, but I ran facing traffic and only saw about 6 cars who veered away from me – although I was prepared to dive off the side of the road if need be.

Near where he lives is a BEAUTIFUL Vineyard (picture from my visit there in May) so I ran there and back. It was very peaceful and green. The smell of nature was quite lovely. A stellar way to spent 3.2 miles, I plan to make that a regular thing.

Gu 2 Go

I took part of the morning off today to do my 6 mile run in 59 degree weather (I’m glad fall has finally arrived in Alabama). Since it was brisk I wore compression capri’s but they don’t have a pocket and after .5 miles I didn’t want to hold my gu. I ended up putting it between my 2 sports bras (what up busty ladies). I’m sure people that passed me as I was putting the gu there and then later retrieving it got quite a show! Putting the gu not against my skin was good because it didn’t hot and since it was between the two sports bras I didn’t even feel it. It also was my first chocolate gu – NOM!

Sock Thief

I only have 4 pairs of compression dri-fit running socks (which are fantastic and I highly suggest getting some). Well for the past 6 months or so one pair of socks went MIA. I wasn’t sure if the laundry monster ate them or I left them at my mom’s or a hotel after a race. I had just been thinking about how I need to buy some more running socks, so color me surprised when I see one sock peeking out from my bed (on the side I don’t sleep on). I look under the bed and see my dog sitting in a pile of shorts, underwear and the other sock. THAT THIEF. He had been nesting in them this entire time. He must have knocked the one sock loose today when scooting out from under the bed. Needless to say I’m happy for my 4th pair back as well as the extra nudge I needed to clean under my bed!

HORRIFYING – I saw a commerical for this today.

Here’s an article I found:

Denny’s dastardly minds have done it again. The restaurant chain that fries mozzarella sticks between pieces of bread, have rolled out more gluttonously cheesy menu items.

The most notable is the Mac n’ Cheese Big Daddy Patty Melt: A burger patty layered with slices of cheese, macaroni and cheese, another layer of cheese, some kind of tomato-based “frisco” sauce and two pieces of buttered-up potato bread. Still hungry? It comes with a side of fries.

The 1,690 calorie count makes a lot more sense when you consider the sandwich is breakfast, lunch and dinner stacked on top of each other. It makes absolutely zero sense when you consider that it’s got 500 more calories than a Carl’s Jr. burger with fries, and large coke. It’s about three times the calories of a KFC Double Down sandwich. And about 200 calories more than five (count ‘em, five) Boston Market Mac and Cheese sides.

That’s without the super-size cheese option. Seriously, if your melt isn’t ooze-y enough, you can pay Denny’s 69 cents extra for more cheese. A better use of that 69 cents: pay the guy in the next booth to be your sober cheese counselor.

Denny’s joined Burger King and more than a dozen chains on a health initiative recently, offering more veggie and fruit options for kids. Adults? They can go to you know where…by way of the cheese menu. Direct quote from the company’s press release: “With America consuming around 8.8 billion pounds of cheese annually, Denny’s is answering to the appetites of the nation by introducing a dedicated menu that celebrates all things cheesy.“ Other items on their new cheese menu include a strawberry cheesecake milkshake and a cheese-filled omelette drizzled in cheese sauce.

But nothing outdoes the cheese pasta/cheeseburger/buttered toast combo, both in calories and in creativity. Be honest, on the gross food scale, does the Mac and Cheese melt look deliciously gross, curiously gross, or just plain gross?

Danger

A Chipotle is opening in town. The next closet one is prob 45 minutes away. I’ve only had it 2 or 3 times in my life, but many of you fitblrs eat there and I find myself lusting over your photo posts.

If I can handle the new Panda Express that just opened in the food court down the hall from my office, then I’m sure I can handle Chipotle across the street.
