I have an unofficial track coach named Tyrone. I met him last week when I was at the track and he saw that I was wearing an Auburn shirt that got us talking as he is an Alabama fan from birmingham. Tyrone was coaching a junior high track group. He pulled me aside during my speedwork to tell me that I needed to breathe more deeply, I appreciated the tip.
This week when I went out to the track I saw Tyrone and the group again. I immediately said hello to him and we got to talking further. He suggested that I do 600s instead of 400. After a few laps of 600 Tyrone suggested that I pay better attention to my form, specifically that I run on the balls of my feet he also said I need to lengthen my stride and swing my arms when really pushing for speed. I also got to pick his brain about my heel pain that I have been feeling lately and he suggested that I get heel cups and also ice my legs and calfs as a preventative measure in addition to my heel. We had a really good conversation about heel spurs and plantar falicilitus. Every time I finished a timed lap Tyrone asked me my time – I appreciated him cheering me on as I went through my training.
