Despite only about 11 hours of sleep in the past 3 days – I’m headed to the gym after work today to run/job and meet with my trainer. I made my appointment with the trainer a few weeks ago not thinking I would be as exhausted as I am, but I’m gonna push through and hopefully sleep like a BABY tonight (and when I say sleep I mean take a 14 hour coma).

Stayed at work waaaay later than I wanted, but I guess that happens when 520 freshmen and 700 parents are gonna to infiltrate campus tomorrow for our first session of ORIENTATION!

I’m off to the gym – multitasking by watching Idol while on the treadmill at the gym!

Please keep my mental health in mind the next 3 days. This is my 9th summer of orientation and it’s still exciting and nervous. Also keep my eating habits in your prayers while I’m subjected to limited choices in food!

Joggers

I started my day with another 3 miler this mornings sans dog. My time was pretty much the same, it’s weird because I thought the dog slowed me down. I WAS breaking in sneakers on this run so that may have affected time. We shall see after a few more trial runs.

I saw a BUNCH of other joggers this morning. Usually the streets have been pretty quiet at 6:30am, but not today. It was so fun to wave, smile or say good morning to other folks. I felt like we were part of a “club.”

AM

I am not a morning person – I love sleeping in on weekends. Well this morning I got up at 9:30 and had a leisurely morning. I planned on hitting the gym around 11. I made it over to the gym at 11:35 to discover it doesn’t open til noon on Sundays. Who knew?! So I parked at a random apt complex across the street and am going to jog for a bit until the gym opens.

Gym Rat

Got back to the gym yesterday and it was glorious. The good thing about living in a college town is now that school’s out it’s less busy. Got in a solid 3.25 mile run on the treadmill at a ~11 minute pace.

I don’t know if I’ll ever be a fast runner, I was in a car accident when I was 5 and had some leg trauma (I couldn’t walk for 48 hour after the accident due to something with the lap belt…many of the details are still foggy). I remember being fast when I was really little, but post accident I recall a difference. I seriously look at people who do 7 minute miles and can’t even fathom it, I push myself to the extreme to do a mile under 10 minutes. Pushing is what it’s all about I suppose. I just try to run every run at my personal best.

After my run at the gym I met with my trainer Isaac. We did core/abs and it’s awesome to see how much stronger I’ve become. It’s great to conquer stuff that was hard a little while ago; it’s not as fun for Isaac to throw new things are me that are challenging as all hell – but I do my best and look forward to the day I conquer that exercise.

I’m headed to the gym in a bit followed by the pool. Last week I went to the pool for the first time this year and put on one of my bathing suits from last summer. THAT’s when I really noticed a different. I generally wear 2 piece tankinis and it’s was awesome to see it loose and for bulges to not be where they once were. I have my eye on a new tankini with an open back from Target. I’m planning on getting it once it goes on sale and hopefully in a L instead of a XL. I’m current on that L/XL cusp. Cusp sizes are always a pain in the ass…I’m trying not to buy things that require an XL, because I KNOW very shortly it will be too big and I don’t want to waste anymore money than I already have in life on XL. The only cusp I EVER want to be on a M/L.

Wet Run

I am currently at a ropes course/retreat facility with my staff/students. We did a bunch of fun activities today and a low ropes course tomorrow. This afternoon during our break I went for a run around the property in the pouring rain. I’ve never “formally” run in the rain and I have to say it was glorious. An interesting combination of sweat and cold rain. I loved it. I ran for about 30 minutes and figure I did at least 2.5miles. All my students were impressed that I used my break to run. I’m gonna try my darndest to get through the next two weeks of orientation training and still run as much as possible!

Small Gym

I found out the small/older Gold’s gym that is closer to my house closed last weekend. I was weirdly sad. I went there maybe 5 times and always got bad vibes while I was there. I did like that it was closer than the shiny, new Gold’s MAX that I regularly go to and I know working out this summer is going to be hard due to my crazy work schedule, but I’ve made peace with it because – I’m an outdoor runner now.

I think the old me would have looked at that gym closing as an excuse not to work out, but the always improving me sees it as an opportunity to run outside.

If I can’t make it to my Gold’s gym then I can run around my neighborhood like I’ve done for the past few Sundays and particularly the past 2 days.

WHAT IS UP :::Said in a Barney Stinson Voice:::

This morning Freddie and I upped the anty and knocked out  a 3.2 mile run this morning. Look at me, starting my day with a “5K” holler! I got up at 6:15am this morning to a lot for extra running time. Yesterday I bought a pair of running shorts and wanted to take them out on a test-drive. Since it was early it was pleasant out and not too busy. Freddie and I ran most of the 3.2 miles. Only really stopping once to walk (uphill) however I did jog the other hill and was pretty proud of myself.

It’s weird how great I feel after a morning run. I feel so alert at work. Usually I’m the type that doesn’t really “wake up” until 9am or so.

Tomorrow I’m “resting” AND getting my 20+ pounds reward tattoo…pictures will follow. However next week I plan on getting up early and running as well.

Morning Jaunt

I really am trying to run 5x a week and in order for me to be sure to get 5 runs in I had to run this morning before work. I am NOT a morning person, however AM workouts are delicious. Back in grad school when I didn’t have to be in the office until Noon I worked out at 9:30am which was perfect. Well this morning I got up at 6:30am – no fun.

I laid all my stuff out the night before and even charged up an old ipod since my current one was acting up (I think it’s alive, but I won’t know for sure until I go home at lunch). When my alarm went off my dog, Freddie, started jumping around so out of bed and dressed I was. I grabbed the dog (my 7 pound 2 year old Pomeranian who currently looks like a shaved lion due to his summer haircut) and we went for our run.

Last week when I wanted a run I ran to a random street and then headed back home, well when I map quested it I saw it was just over 1 mile to that street, there for it was 2 miles roundtrip which was EXACTLY what I was going for. So Freddie and I were off, he’s become a much better running companion…we still have aways to go, but at least he’s not always under my feet or tangling me up in his leash. I don’t run as fast when I’m with him, but I like letting release some of his bottled energy.

The hardest part of the run is the middle leg on the first half mile – all up hill…I usually have to jog/walk it because it’s steep. It was a decent run, but the best part of it was how awake and alive I feel at work. Will I wake up early and run all the time now…no. However I am going to try and run before work more often. The next few weeks are crazy, so I may actually be running before work a lot we’ll see.
