New Music Source!

I don’t know about you guys, but I listen to music all day at work and then usually listen to music while running or working out. During the work day I usually stuck to Pandora or Grooveshark and then for working out I almost exclusively use my itunes. Now don’t get me wrong I have a pretty stellar itunes collection and a ton of bad ass playlists, but I get bored.

In November I was visiting a friend and as we were getting ready she put on music for us to get ready too (yes even at 30 you do that). She used songza to play a playlist. I thought it was cool, but forgot all about it until I was back visiting over Christmas and we used it. I’m obsessed.

First off songza is 100% commerical free in terms of audio, there are adds on the site, but I usually don’t even look at that tab. You log in and there is a dashboard where based on the day of the week/time it asks you your mood and then gives you some options of music. Examples of that playlist I’ve listened to the past week at work:

  • contemporary blue eyed soul
  • golden age of boybands
  • acoustic versions of pop songs

I also ran with my phone as opposed to my ipod the other day (because it was dead) and instead of the music on my phone or pandora I used Songza and listened to a FANTASTIC  "jock jamz" playlist.

Songza check it – you can thank me later 😛

> Feel Good Story of the Day – Marathon Victim Gets Engaged To Nurse From Spaulding Hospital

It’s OFFICIAL

After taking up running in 2010 and transforming my life I’m excited for the chance formally motivate others to meet their fitness goals. I’m lucky to have a great group of friends supporting me and I’ve had the chance to become a mentor and inspiration to some. It’s especially fitting that I start this new chapter in November; this month marks 6 years since I lost my Dad due to complications of gastric bypass surgery.

Social Media Runner

I applied to be a Social Media runner for the Cherry Blossom 10 miler.

In my application I wrote:

I am extremely passionate about social media, especially twitter and tumblr. Social Media helps keep me accountable as a runner and also it’s a way to motivate and be motivated by other active friends.  I ran my first Marathon in 2012 in Los Angeles for the Charity Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure. I created a special twitter account for that race @JennMarathon and live tweeted WHILE running the race. I was able to raise more money while tweeting and also get continuous support from my friends and followers during the race. I would be more than ready and willing to live tweet the Cherry Blossom 10 miler this year. I really enjoyed my first Credit Union Cherry Blossom Race last year as new resident to the DMV and I’ve really fallen in love with the running community here and I already tell my current friends and followers all about it so it’d be cool to have a larger reach through being a Social Media Runner.

Our two selected “Social Runners” must agree to the following:

  • Participate in the November Fall Kickoff (method of participation depends on your location)
  • Make a contribution in an amount of your choosing to Children’s Miracle Network
  • Agree to participate in either the Virtual Training or In-Person PRR Training (fee waived)
  • Appear at the Health and Fitness Expo
  • Attend Saturday Night Sponsor-VIP-Elite Athlete Dinner
  • Run the Race
  • And, most importantly, Tweet, Blog and Facebook with abandon your experiences in the months leading up to the race.

This is so up my alley!!! Wish Me Luck!!
