A colleague across campus is trying to give up diet coke this year. She wrote on FB that she slipped up today, but feels jittery from drinking it. I suggested she swap diet coke for seltzer/club soda. In writing that comment I realized that I gave up diet coke and all traditional soda back in summer 2010!

And you know what I don’t miss it. I’ll have a diet coke ONCE in a blue moon and when I do it’s a lovely treat, but not something I care to have regularly ever again. Canned/bottled seltzer is super cheap and I also love using mywater with my sodatream to make flavored carbonated water at home.

On a similar note next week I’m bringing back ALL WATER WEDNESDAYS. This is something my old boss used to have us do in the summer so we were well hydrated for crazy office events that were on Thursdays and Fridays. I’ll make a call next week for people to join my month long ALL WATER WEDNESDAY challenge. But think about it, I’d love to have you join.

New Music Source!

I don’t know about you guys, but I listen to music all day at work and then usually listen to music while running or working out. During the work day I usually stuck to Pandora or Grooveshark and then for working out I almost exclusively use my itunes. Now don’t get me wrong I have a pretty stellar itunes collection and a ton of bad ass playlists, but I get bored.

In November I was visiting a friend and as we were getting ready she put on music for us to get ready too (yes even at 30 you do that). She used songza to play a playlist. I thought it was cool, but forgot all about it until I was back visiting over Christmas and we used it. I’m obsessed.

First off songza is 100% commerical free in terms of audio, there are adds on the site, but I usually don’t even look at that tab. You log in and there is a dashboard where based on the day of the week/time it asks you your mood and then gives you some options of music. Examples of that playlist I’ve listened to the past week at work:

  • contemporary blue eyed soul
  • golden age of boybands
  • acoustic versions of pop songs

I also ran with my phone as opposed to my ipod the other day (because it was dead) and instead of the music on my phone or pandora I used Songza and listened to a FANTASTIC  "jock jamz" playlist.

Songza check it – you can thank me later 😛

Daily Mile 2013 report

After training for and running 2 marathons in 2012, I took 2013 easy running wise (May-July were my Insanity workout months).

343 is quite a drop from my previous years’ mileage, but maybe a much needed drop because I’m eager to tackle MILES this year.

  • 2010 Total: 791
  • 2011 Total: 651
  • 2012 Total: 750
