  • Last Friday: Outdoor top-rope rockclimbing  and a swim
  • Saturday: Swim and bike
  • Sunday: (Rest) but not really b/c I was on my feet all day for work
  • Monday: Run
  • Tuesday: Whitewater kayaking, swim, bike

  • Thursday: Rest
  • Today: plans to swim and run
  • Saturday: Rest

In other great news: Being the squeaky wheel works. After 3 months of health insurance benefits drama my account is correct and on my next paycheck I’m getting credited money for the previous 4 pay periods!

Crushed it

Yesterday I had planned to bike to my Monday running group, run 3 miles, and then bike back. I was a bit behind schedule and the weather looked ominous so I instead decided to drive to the running group and do the 5 mile run.

I’ve done 5 miles or more at this point hundreds of times, but I haven’t run more than 4 miles since April. I’m pretty sure my last distance of 5 or longer was the NYC half marathon in March.

I went out in the rain with my Garmin on the fritz – so I just used the stopwatch function to mind my pace since the .5, 1.5 and 2.5 mile markers for the out and back were flagged. Thank you Andrew McMahon and your Jack’s Mannequin/Something Corporate Emo-Punk to keep my pace fierce and me motivated.

There were maybe 50 of us out to run and most of the group opts for 3 miles, but there is aways a handful or two that opt for 5. I was the slowest of the 5 milers, but I didn’t care. I felt great. No walking breaks needed and I wasn’t obsessing over pace. I ended up with a 51:56 run which I was pretty stoked about.

Weekend in Review

Friday

  • 5.5 mile bike ride to Sports Authority to get new nose clips since I somehow lost mine, followed by a 5.5 mile ride back home (found a cute new park in Potomac Yards)
  • 400m Swim
  • Laundry and couch potato status with my roommate

Saturday

  • 9.5 mile hike on the Billy Goat Trail at Great Falls with T
  • Cooked a yummy and healthy dinner for us
  • Snuggles on the couch and watched 6 episodes of “Naked and Afraid” on demand which led to some interesting “what if” conversations

Sunday

  • Church for the first time in weeks (I literally haven’t been home to go since the end of June)
  • Food prep for the week
  • 2 mile speed run with Freddie
  • 400m Swim
  • Andrew McMahon, Matt Nathanson, Gavin DeGraw concert at Wolf Trap with a whole gaggle of friends. This was somehow my first time seeing Andrew who was stellar. I went in feeling neutral about Matt, but DAYUM does that man put on a show. He won me over for sure, I’m currently listening to him on spotify, debating what to purchase. Gavin played a great show and sounded on point, but he wasn’t super interactive.
