Sloth and Gluttony

Good God this weekend was awesome. I managed to squeeze in SOME of my to do list, but I mostly spent the weekend on the couch with T and it was glorious.

Friday

  • After work I ran 3 miles with Freddie
  • Then had a very exciting networking call with a women in Southern California who works at a school I’m interested in work at
  • Went to T’s who has the apt to himself all weekend so I brought groceries and cooked him a healthy dinner there (I even got him to eat brussel sprouts – the key is a LOT of lemon pepper)
  • We then watched his favorite childhood Christmas movie Jingle All the Way (which I had never seen)
  • We then ate some yummy Pepperidge chocolate cake with cool whip (T was in charge of dessert)

Saturday (It was rainy and gross all day)

  • We slept in and snuggled
  • Went to Rustico for brunch mmm (we were sitting next to an older couple who were very lovey dovey and it lead to an enlightening conversation)
  • I then took T to my favorite little random shop – it’s actually called “The Variety Store” and we spent over an hour browsing. I picked up some little Christmas gifts and a gingerbread house because T said he had never decorated one!
  • We then braved the Pentagon City Mall to go to Bath and Body works to get Fresh Balsam candles since T is obsessed with the ones in my apt. I foolishly picked up a drugstore Christmas candle for his place and it just wan’t cutting it so we knew we had to hit the mall
  • While I the mall I was able to run into MAC to get mascara
  • We then stopped by Macy’s to look at winter coats. T is still wearing his North Face Fleece and it’s too cold. I found an awesome Kenneth Cole Peacoat that T loved, but they didn’t have a Large. Good news I did find it online so I hope he buys it! We also looked at Women’s coats because the one I bought online came, but I’m still on the fence and for $170 I really don’t want to be on the fence.
  • We spontaneously decided to continue our lazy weekend (we don’t usually spend 2 nights in a row together) so we swung by my apt to grab Freddie since I missed him and I grabbed some Christmas movies.
  • We came back to T’s and put on my all-time favorite Disney Christmas singalong from the 80s (which was remastered and includes new songs/cartoon which are nowhere near as good). We also watched “All I Want for Christmas” with Ethan Embry and Thora Birch another 90s favorite of mine
  • Together we put together the gingerbread house and decorated it which was really fun, T got into it. Pictures here
  • We then ate the leftovers from last night’s dinner and more dessert before T, Freddie and I all piled into bed.
  • T jokes about how Freddie likes him more and how Freddie is going to live with him. So while at T’s I have him the responsibility of walking Freddie hehe

Sunday

  • T and I were up early, maybe because we were in bed early and Freddie was jumping around
  • T lives in a little town center type thing so we walked down to the shops to grab coffee and a breakfast sandwich
  • We came back and watched some of The Office (one of his favorite shows) and HIMYM (one of my favorite shows). We are on season 3 of both.
  • I had grand plans to come home and run, but I bailed because it was cold and getting dark (however I’m forcing myself to do 5 treadmill miles after work today since I missed yesterday)
  • Instead I caught up on my neglected DVR and did my nails.
  • After having a super busy WEEK last week I didn’t mind a lazy weekend. I hope to find more of a balance this week/weekend.

Holiday Gift Idea (to ask Santa for maybe too)!

I rarely drink regular soda anymore, but I am a huge Seltzer/Club Soda fan. Soda Stream makes “My Water” flavors (pictured bottom left). You can add sugar free flavors like lemon-lime (my favorite), orange or raspberry. Last week I was buying new CO2 cartridges for my Soda Stream and saw a sample pack of Crystal Light flavors for 50% off and decided to give them a whirl. UMMMMMM SUPER YUMMY. I’ve tried the Lemonade and the Strawberry so far and I’m hooked already. I like Crystal Light and I like Seltzer, put them together and WOWZA.

I love my Soda Stream and I highly recommend you get one. I’ve had mine for 2 years now. I actually got it from a guy I was dating at the time who was moving overseas and he couldn’t bring it with him. I don’t know if I would have ever went out and bought one, but I’m so glad I have it and I would totally buy one now if anything happened to mine. I’m obsessed. I have even cute 1 liter and .5 liter bottles in fun colors that I got as a thoughtful gift from my old roommate.

Modern Day Chivalry

I was just reading a FB article in my newsfeed about chivalry and I just had to share this little story.

T has been wonderful about regularly opening the car door for me when he is driving and I think it’s super sweet. Over the past month I’ve driven us a bunch since I’ve invited T to some concerts, events, etc and I know where I’m driving.

I teased him about only opening the door for me when I’m the passenger and not when I’m the driver. He joked how when I drive I should be opening the door for him. So lately when I’ve driven I’ve been opening the car for T (when I remember). I think it’s super cute of us. In fact once when I forgot T stood by his door and cleared his throat haha.

Even though it’s a silly example I really do like that T doesn’t have a caveman mentality about gender roles in relationships. My last serious ex once said I was “too dominant” in our relationship and he didn’t like it. I actually talked to T about that last weekend because while we were out I ordered both of our beers when the waitress came. I realized that maybe he didn’t like that I sometimes “take charge.” We had a good little chat about things and T said he doesn’t mind at all, in fact he likes it. We have a good balance between us and I can’t believe we are approaching 6 months together!

So ladies (and gentlemen) take that ramble for what it’s worth.

Eyeball PSA

Worthy of a reblog from 94monkeys

Last night was the eye doc, where I found out something surprising that some of you might want to know.

I’ve had some dryness in one eye for a while now — not enough to get it checked out, but enough to irritate me occasionally. I figured as long as I was in checking my glasses prescription, I would get it looked at, and that it was probably nothing.

The dryness turned out to be a symptom of sun/ wind damage on the outer membrane of my eye (technical term: pinguecula). ”Do you spend a lot of time outside?” the optometrist asked me. Well, I run outside in a windy place along a body of water that causes UV rays to bounce right into my eyes… oh crap.

Now, it’s at a very mild stage and I’m currently treating it with OTC eye drops and so on. But I’m going to have to start wearing sunglasses when I run outside in the daytime from now on, and probably the rest of the time as well. (I apologize to everyone I thought looked like a tool in them before. Now I understand for some of you it was probably necessary or a good idea. I will also take this time to apologize to Bono, he knows why.)

Being super-pale and mindful of it, I would never ever go out for a run in the summer without sunscreen on. I wish I had taken the same care before for my eyes, but I will from now on. I hope if any of you have had similar issues, and you are able, you will get this checked out sooner rather than later.

David Cook is less than $18,000 away from his $1 Million for Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure milestone.

We’re hoping to reach the goal TONIGHT before his benefit concert. Please considering donating to this cause on Giving Tuesday today. https://www.crowdrise.com/dc1million

This is a cause near and dear to my heart that I’ve been involved with since 2009. I’ve run 5 Race for Hope 5Ks over the years and was on ABC2’s LA Marathon team with David in 2012.
