Mindless Activities

A post from likemebutsmaller about cutting about on tv/internet got me thinking. I had a tivo box from my dad after he died, but never set it up. I just sat my tv on it from Dec 2008-Jan 2010. Finally in January 2010 I decided to hooked up the tivo (to record American Idol – because I was using a VCR for recording other things prior). I quickly noticed that with tivo I got to watch what I WANTED. There was no mindless television watching or channeling surfing.

Cutting out mindless television also meant a reduction in mindless eating. Now when I watch television I’m engaged in what I want to watch. Even though I can “pause” the show I usually stay planted. I find myself not getting up to snack as much.

I also should mention that getting tivo coincided with starting my weightless journey. Getting tivo meant that I didnt have to rush home from the gym to watch a tv show. Living in the central time zone is tricky when primetime tv starts at 7pm.

Tivo has given me so much freedom and time, it was a very good investment on my end.

Weekend Workouts

This weekend was a great one health-wise.

4 miles on Friday, 3.3 miles Saturday, 3.1 miles and yoga today!

Meanwhile W was here this weekend and I was able to get in workouts and make good food decisions. I ate my variations of food while he ate his, however I did get him to eat spaghetti squash, greek yogurt and baked lays. Small victories!

Now I’m off to improv practice in a bit. Have I mentioned I’m in an improv comedy group? We were really at our prime last year, but everyone’s schedules have been crazy the last few months so practices and shows have been hit or miss. Laughter and being funny is really good for my health too!

Sunday Centeredness

This morning I went to a different church with a very music oriented service which was awesome. It felt like a concert at times, I really enjoyed it. A bunch of my students were there and I sat with a few of them. I’m planning on going back.

This afternoon I ran a self imposed 10K and then went to yoga. I actually drove to the gym then ran a 5K out and a 5K back before yoga class which was a combo of great poses and great music.

I feel fan-freaking-tastic.

I missed my boyfriend this weekend, but I loved the time to myself.  I cleansed my mind, body, spirit and apartment!

Damn December

Ok it’s still technically November, but December is gonna be crazy. There are a bunch of after work parties and events that are going to throw off my running schedule. I’m happy I built in a few extra weeks in terms of marathon training, but getting in 4 runs a week is going to be tough. I’m gonna try my hardest to put in all the runs/mileage, but it’s gonna be a challenge.

I think balancing W and running will be hard too, but he is really supportive of my running and impressed by my focus and determination. I have mentioned my tumblr to him – I referred to as a fitness/running blog which is true. I also mentioned that I wasn’t as svelte as I am currently pre-running. That came up because picked me up again and I was like squirming and he didn’t understand why I was making a face. He was like I have at least 50 pounds on you…(and I wanted to be like funny that you mention 50 pounds because that’s about how much I’ve lost this year). Instead I alluded to weight loss from running, but didn’t get into specifics and I have most of my fat pictures blocked from him seeing on facebook. In the mean time I’ll let him think I’ve just been the goddess I am today all along. HAHA. I’m kidding about the goddess thing…ok half kidding 😛

PS – all you comments and messages are so cute and wonderful. I know that so many of you are genuinely happy for me and I love how much we invest in eachother’s lives. It’s so special.

Learning Curve

I was going to go to the gym today despite it being a rest day, but as it got closer to the end of the work day which started at 7:15am, I realized I am far too tired and my legs could really use a break, so no gym today. I’m going to try and keep my rest days RESTFUL because I think it will pay off in the long run.

I also have been assessing my “myplate” and my calories are lower than they should be, but my protein in WAAAY high. So I need to find a balance of eating more calories, but with less protein. SUGGESTIONS?

Experiments X 2

Soooo I joined MyPlate yesterday reluctantly. I really don’t want to become a calorie counting obsesser – it’s not my style and I’m bad at math. However I want to get a clearer picture of what I’m not getting in my diet or getting too much of. I see some of you folks losing 2 pounds a week and I’d love for weight to drop off me at that pace. I’ve been an exercise fiend and eating well, but I want to see what my problem is, it could be that I’m not eating enough or enough of the right things. So I am doing this mini experiment. I’m going to be using MyPlate for the next 2 weeks leading up to my 10K and see what I learn.

Also starting today I am going to be doing a plank every day for the next 2 weeks (I was inspired by http://losingweightinthecity.com/) and see how my time and form HOPEFULLY improve – however I will not be videoing myself.
