Gobble Gobble

Since T and I spent Thanksgiving apart this year to be with own families he decided he wanted us to do a Thanksgiving together when I got back in town last weekend.

In his excitement T went to go to the grocery store to get said turkey on Black Friday and there was only one turkey, so he bought it. That turkey was nearly 24 pounds. T did made a lovely turkey (his first time), but needless to say we have A LOT of leftovers.

We’ve been eating quite well, we’ve made:

  • Turkey and Rice Soup
  • Turkey-Bacon-Avocado grilled cheeses (with cranberry yummmm)
  • Turkey Tetrazzini
  • Mason jar salads with Turkey
  • and obvious turkey leftover sandwiches with fixin’s

I got most of the recipes from Delish. Here is the soup which has been our favorite!

Metabolize Me

So 2 weeks ago I saw some facebook sponsored post about if I knew my metabolic type and my #1 metabolic killer.  Out of curiosity I clicked on it and took the online questionnaire.

It old me my metabolic type is a “mixed burner”

My #1 metabolic killer was that I am a “wide window eater”

I’ve been struggling to lose weight for the past year – lots of plateaus despite working out hard and well on the regular. So I was intrigued.

It says that my metabolic type based on the survey is that I burn both sugars and muscle. “Mixed burners are right in the middle and can be nudged toward the sugar burner side of the equation if they overindulge in carbs and fat. At the same time, they can also be pulled to the muscle burner side if they are overexposed and/or acutely reactive to stress.”

I really found the “wide window eater” metabolic killer to be interesting because I generally eat small meals between 8am-8pm. It is suggested that I eat the same amount, but in a more compressed time like 11am-7pm.

Granted the website wanted to sell me a work out regime called Metabolic Aftershock that is more about pushing your anaerobic threshold. I’m intrigued, but also want to use the summer to triathlon train. However last week I was conscious of trying to wait until ~10:30am to eat, which so far hasn’t been bad (especially since I’m not working out in the morning). I’m going to try and spend the month “closing my eating window” and see if I get any results. Has anyone else done this?

Eat good feel good!

I’ve made the conscious decision not to post every Blue Apron meal online that I’ve cooked the past 2 weeks, but here they are in one!

I gotta tell you I’ve noticed that I’m feeling leaner and fitter, which I think is impart to my change in diet. More FRESH good, appropriate portions, and quality ingredients.

The ~35 min cooking is less fun when I’m alone, but the two times I’ve cooked with T are a blast. I like that I’m up and doing as opposed to on the couch or whatnot.

I’m fortunate that I have the money right now to splurge on Blue Apron. I definitely don’t want to be salesy (this is not an ad and I am not being paid), but if you want a code for anything for a trial let me know!

Bacon 3 ways

T had bought some crazy delicious bacon for breakfast today with eggs. Well the bacon was so good I had the genius idea to use the rest of it and buy supplies to make BLTs and a wedge salad!

Seeded Jewish rye bread, big beautiful tomatoes, iceberg lettuce, red onion, mayo, blue cheese crumbles, ranch dressing, cracked black pepper, deli pickles, and the BACON!!

Neither of us could recall the last time we had a BLT, mmmmmmmm. We’ll be eating that again!

Blue Apron

I just signed up to try Blue Apron. I’m sick of what I’ve been eating and falling into “food traps.”

My beloved Elvis Duran (NYC based radio show) was offering a free shipping deal and as a new customer I also got $20 off my first order.

First box comes Tuesday, I’m excited to test the waters – I think T will really get into it too!
