18 total miles this week

Today is a rest day to kick off week 4, but I’m still going to go to the gym to stretch and do some core work outs and maybe even the stairmaster. It’s so crazy how working out has become so engrained in my life these days.

This Saturday I’m doing 6 miles as part of my Half Marathon training and in preparation for my 10K which is now under 2 weeks away!!

FUCK YEAH FIVE!!

Just finished week 3 of half marathon training with a 5 mile run. I had an awesome pace the whole time and only stopped to walk for about 2-3 minutes once. Did the run in 59:17!! Running in the evening was awesome – the last leg wasn’t so bad because the weather was cooling down as opposed to warming up like with morning runs. Plus I found a breathable Adidas polo I had and cut the sleeves and collar off to run in – it was awesome. I can’t wait to be down another 5 pounds so I can buy some legit running clothes. I really feel like the shirt made a big difference.

Experiments X 2

Soooo I joined MyPlate yesterday reluctantly. I really don’t want to become a calorie counting obsesser – it’s not my style and I’m bad at math. However I want to get a clearer picture of what I’m not getting in my diet or getting too much of. I see some of you folks losing 2 pounds a week and I’d love for weight to drop off me at that pace. I’ve been an exercise fiend and eating well, but I want to see what my problem is, it could be that I’m not eating enough or enough of the right things. So I am doing this mini experiment. I’m going to be using MyPlate for the next 2 weeks leading up to my 10K and see what I learn.

Also starting today I am going to be doing a plank every day for the next 2 weeks (I was inspired by http://losingweightinthecity.com/) and see how my time and form HOPEFULLY improve – however I will not be videoing myself.

Run-spo

Apparently, my new running obsession has ignited a passion in the people around me.

One of my best friends who I “forced” to run my 5K with me has actually really taken to running. She sent me this text yesterday: I spent $125 on running clothes and I blame you.

A grad student who has been working in our office for the past month said that I’ve inspired her to train for another half marathon (she’s run 2 previously, but has been on hiatus).

Another one of my best friends who is coming to Nashville with me for the 4th of July and originally was going to just cheer me on in my 10k is actually training to run in the 5K portion of the race in Nashville! She doesn’t know if she’ll be ready or can run the whole time, but she’s training and hopes the heat in the south won’t kill her 😛

I’m so proud of all of my friends, I think surrounding yourself with a support system is so important. I’m thankful to have all of you on here, but having friends in real life will help me continue this lifestyle change.

Soaked

Wow what a work out. I planned on doing 3 miles on the treadmill before I met with my trainer. I had a tshirt for my trainer and I had always wanted to run while covering the screen so I wouldn’t obsess over time/miles etc, so I figured use the shirt to cover the screen. Well let me tell you I knew when I hit 1 mile and then I was like let’s keep going until I really need a water break and knocked out another mile in a total of 21:32. I was hauling ass and I thought to myself maybe I should run 4 miles today and 3 miles tomorrow (which I am going to do at 8 am since I don’t have to be at work until 10 am and I want to start running in the type of heat it will be when I do my 10K. I was nervous about doing the 4 miles and running later in the morning than my usual 6:15 am). So I decided to knock out the other two miles. So I ended up doing my 4 miles in 41:56. WHAT?!?! Who am I? I’m a beast. I think the trick was covering the screen. I may start bringing a towel or something to cover up the screen when I run from now on, plus it makes it a bit more like a real run outdoors because I can’t obsess over time and mileage then.

Then post run I worked abs and back with my trainer. I was SO sweaty – it was gross and great at the same time. I like need a sweat band or goggles or something, I hate when I get sweat in my eye and it BURNS LIKE A MOTHER. He kicked my ass, but I pushed through and feel stronger for it.

17.3 total miles this week

I really love having a mapped out 12 week running program. It really helps keep me accountable. I know how much I have to run and that I need to run 5x a week or I will fall behind.

I WAS anxious about when I go “home” to New York for 10 days in late July/August and that my running might take a hit, but my sister (who ran the NYC ½ marathon last summer in place of someone who got injured just a month before the race) said she is going to take me running over the Brooklyn Bridge and through Central Park etc. I am SO not a tourist, but those are iconic running locations and I’m really excited to enjoy NYC as a RUNNER for the first time.

Now & Then

Me in College: Drinking a beer in the shower to kick off pre-gaming

Me Today: Drinking a protein shake in the shower post-workout

Seriously WHO AM I ?!?!?!

I had this thought the other day when I was drinking my protein shake in the shower and meant to blog it, but then again today I drank my shake in the shower and knew I needed to share it. I guess you can chalk it up to multi-tasking.

Had a GREAT workout at the gym (solid run in my under armour sneakers, you can really feel the difference in support in a new show vs a well worn one) now I’m headed out to the pool for the afternoon to work on my Bronze Goddess status and maybe even swim some laps!

Happy Saturday 🙂

Running Shoe Update

Okay so originally I marked getting Nike+ and the ipod censor as a 35 pound reward. Then I thought I am doing this 10K and really need new sneakers, so maybe I’ll get them now and get the ipod censor when I hit 35 pounds. However yesterday I had trouble finding shoes in my size or that I liked and after looking online I really like the Custom sneakers you can get (I love all the color combos you can do), but they are like $120. I’m willing to spend that money on sneakers, but I want to spend it as a reward when I hit 35 pounds loss. Plus what use is having sneakers that hold a censor chip if I don’t get the censor chip for another 10 pounds.

So with that being said I have some Under Armour sneakers I got last month from work that are plain silver/white (I am NOT a plain sneaker kinda gal – I put blue and orange laces in them to spice them up). So yes these Under Armour shoes are not cute, but all the online reviews say they are good running shoes. So I’m gonna wear them as I continue my 10K training and for the 10K.

So the plan is late July/early August :::fingers crossed::: I will be down a total of 35 pounds and will get the sneakers then – which coincidentally is when my birthday is and I will have some extra birthday money in my pocket which will soften the blow of $120 sneakers and a $30 ipod censor kit! PLUS I’ll be home (aka my mom’s) in New York around my birthday, so I will have the option of trying on more shoes to make sure they fit right and either get them in store if I find ones I like or go ahead and order custom ones online.
