Twelve 5Ks?

I haven’t raced since May and haven’t even run since the middle of September, but my heel/Achilles/PF having been feeling better since I got all new shoes in October and took a complete rest from running.

I’ve walked a little on treadmills lately and today I decided to register for a 5K on MLK day that is a run/walk which is exactly what I plan to do – both run and walk. T also let me register him!

I have my annual Race for Hope 5K in May, but it got me thinking, could I commit to one official 5K race a month for 2017? I figured I might as well register for January before I officially commit.

Any favorite 5Ks in the great DC area you all recommend?

Here’s my 2016 workout overview. Shout out to @veggielife for the template!

My motivation is strongly linked to my stress/frustration levels. Work was unbearable before I switched jobs in June and working out was the only release or sense of control I had at times.

Switching jobs, moving, and moving with T were all good things and I tend to get lazier when I’m happy.

In November I really didn’t like how my clothes were fitting so after Thanksgiving I started doing shred. Now that the Holidays are over I’m bucking down on making healthy food choices. Cutting out unnecessary sweets and limited my alcohol intake.

I’m hoping 2017 looks good on me!

Shred Drill Sergeant

Today will be my 17th workout of 30 day shred (I freaking loathe level 2), and I think 15 of them have been while T is on the couch. In all fairness T’s been using my 30 minute workout time (where I take over the living room) to practice guitar, which is something he’s been wanting to get back into.

However T also pushes me Drill Sergeant style to go faster/lower/straighter etc all while barking in a “frog voice.” If any of you have Marines in your life then you may be familiar with the DI (Drill Instructor) frog voice – if not check out this video from a Boot Camp documentary that T owns, this is one of the the best/worst scenes https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yNBgKjLWVcw

Too bad I’m in the throws of working out or else I’d video T’s frog voice “yelling” it’s so funny and weirdly motivating.

Shred Level 2

I finished my 10th day of level 1 yesterday, onto level 2 this evening!

I also went to a great lunchtime yoga class yesterday at work. It was a different class which usually has a fee, but they waived fees this week – it may be worth getting a class membership for next semester.

WIWhoops

Damnit, I forgot to weigh myself today. I guess that happens when you only got on the scale for the first time in months last week.

HOWEVER, I think part of the reason I forgot was because I got up early to do the Shred DVD (Level 1 Day 8) before work since I have plans later. Threw we off my usual routine. However I shall weigh in tomorrow, not that numbers mean everything. I already feel better!

Weekend rundown

Friday

  • Shred: day 4
  • Target to pick out some Christmas decorations

Saturday

  • Made some home decor purchases at Hobby Lobby
  • Went to a Christmas tree farm in hopes to cut down our own tree, but none of the many left were quite right (we wanted tall, but skinny yet full) so we bought a pre-cut one
  • Successfully got the tree 20 miles home and put it up (after multiple attempts to get it straight and find the “front” of the free)
  • Put lights on the tree – colored lights which I conceded to T on and still feel meh about
  • Cleaned/organized house phase 1 in prep for our Holiday Housewarming party next Saturday

Sunday

  • Went to like 4 stores in hopes to find a silver star tree topper (fail, so I ordered one online)
  • Put cute red and white lights up outside around the front door and a glittery red bow on our shed
  • Swept up all the leaves outside the house, trimmed a tree branch out front that annoyed me, pulled weeds
  • Shred: day 5
  • Hit 10,000 steps for the second time this week
  • Cleaned/organized house phase 2 in prep for our Holiday Housewarming party on Saturday
  • Decorated the tree while watching my favorite Disney Christmas sing along and Rudolph which we DVRed

News I already know

Working out and eating well for a few days in a row MAKES YOU FEEL BETTER. Also it makes you want to continue to work out and eat well.

Taking small steps in the right direction can easily turn into bigger steps. I was quickly able to turn unnecessary sweets and alcohol – they won’t make me feel better and I rather keep up my momentum.

I’ll keep my alcohol indulgences to the weekends and the sweets for only when I really will savor it.

Cheers to 30 AhealthyU stickers!

One full board means I get $30 in campus bucks! Since the game is through December 23, I am hoping to score a 10 point or even a 20 point prize too. I would be going to yoga classes, cooking demos, workshops etc anyway- but I do like the visual of collecting stickers to mark my effort!
