Ragnar Training Already?

With it being harder and harder to catch daylight to run in I’ve found myself squeezing runs in when I can:

  • 6:45pm yesterday: 5 miles
  • 6:45am today: 4 miles
  • 6:45am tomorrow: 8 miles

One of the biggest challenges of running a Ragnar Relay is race is running multiple legs in ~36hours. I’ll give myself a short reprieve after Dublin, but then it’s Ragnar Florida Keys training (Race weekend is February 5 & 6).

We still have spots on our team if you want to join @94monkeys and me!

My ABC2 Story

I realized when I posted yesterday about my Dublin Marathon fundraising for ABC2 that some of you may not be familiar with my connection to Accelerate Brain Cancer Cure (ABC2).

In November 2007 my Dad unexpectedly passed away from complications of gastric bypass surgery. I wasn’t much of an American Idol watcher, but in January-February 2008 I heard buzz about David Cook after his audition and watching/looking forward to American Idol that season helped me get through the early weeks of coping with the loss of my Dad. I became a major fan of David, his story, and his music which became part of my regular work out soundtrack.

I donated to David’s team at Race For Hope 2009. I was stunned by the bravery and dedication to run in wake of his brother’s passing from a brain tumor the night before the race. Even though I didn’t lose my Father to cancer, his loss touched me and motivated me further to get fit and healthy. The following year when David announced he was going to run Race for Hope again I knew I wanted to join him and raise money myself. I was NEVER a runner. However slowly, but surely I started.

I have gained so much from running – I’ve found peace, confidence, and good health. I’ve given myself the gift a long healthy life due to running. My hope for everyone is to have long healthy lives and finding ABC2 has been such a blessing in my life.

If you have any funds from $2.62 to $26 to donate I’d appreciate it, but I also always enjoy getting my story out.

Thank You

Today is 3 weeks until the Dublin Marathon and yes I’m exhausted, but I’m also super thankful.

Tumblr you are high on the list of people who have gotten me here. From helpful comments on blog posts, to private messages of encouragement, to posting your own success stories to motivate me, as well as posting your struggles which help me feel less alone in mine. Every “like” and fitbit “cheer” etc is noticed and appreciated more than you’ll know.

I also could not write this post without mentioning T – he’s been so supportive. From never suggesting that I skip a run, to being extremely concerned when I was out for a run waaay longer than I should have, to understanding that sometimes I need to choose running over time with him. Yesterday after my 20 miler he had ice ready for my ice bath (which I asked him to get), but he also cleaned his tub, bought me my favorite powerade zero and my favorite DC tacos to aid in my recovery, as well as gave me a foot and calf massage.

Tech Revolt

All of my running technology is on the fritz.

My 2 year old Fitbit isn’t holding a charge for long/having trouble charging.

My decade old iPod mini (with click wheel) is acting up after yesterday’s wet run and I half broke the armband case trying to get it out due to said hiccup.

My “new” Garmin (it’s an older model, but was new when I got it for Christmas) is also losing its charge quickly. I’m positive it’s not going to hold a charge through my 20 miler and I’m anxious about the marathon (already debating running the first 5 miles without turning it on).

Do I need to invest in new tech, yes. But these need to get me through the next 3.5 weeks. I can’t change shit up this late in the game and all my extra monies are going toward Ireland funsies.

Regardless I feel like I’m on the brink of a marathon meltdown (which isn’t totally surprising)…
