Training Day

My marathon training runs this week are number: 67, 68, 69, 70

Have no fear these runs are 2-4 miles a piece.

I only missed 2 training runs this whole 18 weeks of training and I’m actually making up one this week since my marathon isn’t until Monday so I want to keep my legs loose.

I missed a 3 miler back in July (due to doing an 8 mile hike in it’s place and not wanting to over do it that week). Which I am making up this week in place of a scheduled 2 miler and pushing that 2 miler until the Saturday before the race.

Then 2 weeks ago I missed a mid-week 10 miler due to Hurricane Joaquin, but I did tack some extra miles onto some runs here and there since then.

Overall I’m really proud of my commitment to training. I’m feeling optimistic that I can do Dublin between 5:04 and 5:27 (my previous 2 marathon times).

Fall Weather

Yesterday’s 8 miler was glorious.

~50 degree weather and an 11:40 min/mi pace. I test drove my marathon outfit and had a really great run. I feel ready. I always forgot what an impact weather can have on my pace. I felt quick. In reviewing the weather in Dublin for NEXT Monday, it’s should be pretty similar to yesterday which would be spectacular.

1 week from this moment (remember Dublin is 5 hours ahead) I will be a 3x marathoner!

ADVICE NEEDED!

So I’ve had quite the back and forth with Fitbit customer service, some helpful some less so. Ultimately my Fitbit is too old to be covered for anything, but they are offering me 25% off a replacement purchase from Fitbit.com which I appreciate.

So the question is do I replace my Flex with a Flex for $75 with discount ($99.95) OR do I get the Charge HR for $112.50 with discount ($149.95).

Spending $150 for a ChargeHR never crossed my mind due to the price point, BUT with that discount it’s way more manageable and I’ve never had a HR device.

Thoughts?

WIW

Last week: 194.8

Today: 195.6

Change: +0.8

I’m not even sweating it, I’m eating pretty normally just with the taper my mileage is down (thankfully).

Here’s a little transcript from a FB chat with my college roommate (B) who just ran the Chicago Marathon.

B: The foam rolling happened but need more today. So painful but good at the same time.

Me: hurts so good as I like to say

B: I don’t know. There might have been some tears.

B: Can’t believe you’ve willingly done this more than once. You are amazing!!

Me: I actually signed up for my second one a few weeks BEFORE I did my first.

Me: So really I was foolish

B: LOL

Me: it’s taken 2.5 years to work up the courage for my 3rd and last one

Mid Day Check In

  • ran 4 miles this morning 63/71
  • one of my students went on about how much she loved my bun today
  • I emailed fitbit customer service, stay tuned
  • In pulling my tracker out of my fitbit flex, I may have further ripped the band, so now I’ve secured it with scotch tape (sexy) until I get home and put on another band

What’s Up Doc

T had his physical today, first one in a decade!

Doctor said everything looked good, I even sent T with a list of things to ask/talk about. His blood work should be back in a few days and I’m hoping for another good report.

I’m so happy he went, not that I had any real concern, but with him training for a 12K I really just wanted to be sure.

Oh and I weigh like 6 lbs more that him. 6′0 and 186 lbs….jerk! He’s just shy of the healthy BMI (not that BMI is the end all be all) and I’m sure running and getting back to the gym will get him “healthy”  quickly.

Dear Fitbit

My beloved fitbit flex which I got in August 2013 is really annoying me. It’s charger has been a problem for well over a year, but I was able to finagle it to charge until recently.

So in addition to struggling for the charger and the fitbit to actually charge, sporadically it’s been fully charged and then die/drain within hours. I’m also having syncing issues once I got get it charged back up after phantom drains.

I’m so not one to every call/write to customer service, but I also know most people have had positive fitbit customer service interactions and get replacement fitbits/chargers. Thoughts/suggestions on if I should suck it up and buy a new fitbit or reach out to customer service and if so what approach to take?
