Try the Tri

I’m so glad I picked a local triathlon as my first one. The race is actually at a branch campus of the University I work at – about 20 miles west of here.

I had planned to go do a test run of the course (minus the pool) in the next few weeks. Well last night I realized I’d be out at the campus today from 1:30-4pm so I can do the course after. I brought my gear and bike (no bike rack yet – removed the front wheel instead to get it in the car – however I still hope to pick up a rack this weekend).

I’m also going to be out at the branch campus the Tuesday before the race, so I’ll be able to get a second go-round of the course and also practice driving with the bike on my car rack/getting it off the bike rack.

Ekkkkk!

Marathon Legs

I’m starting my long 4th of July weekend with a 12 mile bike ride and a bodypump video, before heading down to Raleigh and Charlotte for the weekend.

I may only be running 1-2 a week right now, but as of this week and very intensely today I feel like my “marathon legs” are back!

When you train hard your muscles respond. My tri training and other crosstraining has been going strong for ~6weeks now and I can FEEL my muscles gripping to my body, especially my legs. I remember in the weeks before the LA marathon just feeling like solid muscle, I felt so alive. I was hyper aware if every moment of my muscles and this feeling is back.

I’m really enjoying the daily change up of workouts, I don’t feel burnt out and I’m working different parts of my body (and mind) each day.

WIW

Last week: 186.2

Today: 184.6

Change: -1.6

Triathlon training and being “in like” both apparently do a body good.

I plan to do another 425-450 yard swim today after work and then at least a 12 mile bike ride since I leave for North Carolina tomorrow and won’t be back until Monday.

Just Keep Swimming

I had an AMAZING swim after work yesterday. I aimed for 400yards, but I felt so good I did 425 which will be my tri distance.

All of the tips and lessons and advice I got from my friend’s dad already kicked in. I felt SO much more confident. I didn’t feel as exhausted because I got my breathing under control and I feel like I was crossing the pool at a noticeably faster speed.

Purchasing some gear: speedo vanquisher googles, a pull buoy, a kickboard as well as a tri suit. It’s in my “cart” at the moment, but plan to pull the trigger today since it’s pay day.

Ish is getting real, but I’m getting excited.

Post swim, I went out for a 3 mile run and kept it just under an 11 min pace in crazy heat.

1 MONTH

1 month from now I will *hopefully* be an official TRI-ATHLETE!!

I’m headed down to southern Maryland tomorrow to meet my friend’s dad who is a swim coach for some lesson/tips/advice. I’m excited to see what these next 4 weeks of training bring!

PS – My Darius Rucker (aka Hootie) concert is also in 1 month. I’m looking forward to the shower and power nap between the tri and the show.
