After reading @legallybrunettemama ‘s post about her Lent progress I thought I’d chime in. My Lenten habit I’ve ADDED to my life is writing in my paper journal every day. So far I’m 2 weeks in and I honestly forgot how good it was to have a nightly check in with myself. I give myself 1 page to write a day, but no pressure to fill it – however, one day I filled 2 pages. Anyway, each new day gets a new page, which also makes looking back through the journal easier. Small goals are still worthy goals, never forget that!

Lunch Miles
Spent 40 minutes of my lunch break walking 2 miles on the treadmill at the gym at work. Today’s been SUPER quiet at work and I was getting restless. I’m so glad I went and got my blood pumping – even though I plan to go to Body Pump and walk some on the treadmill later.
Weight loss and weight maintenance is a neverending journey and that’s okay. I just need to work on balance, that’s my goal for 2018.
Strong Start
- Began tracking on my WW app again – it works so well for me – I don’t know how I fall off track, but alas I’m back
- I went to the gym yesterday for 2.5 treadmill miles
- Did a HUGE grocery shop of ALL the healthy things
- Prepped egg cups for the week
- Got to the office early, but it’s basically a ghost town here.
- Made my new 2018 circle calendar this time on 8.5 x14 paper
- Rearranged my office
- Oh and all this is while they have been testing fire alarms for now nearly 2 hours…
Looking back at my 2017 in fitness!
I worked out 175 days this year, up from 156 last year. I definitely need to work on balance in 2018…in every aspect of my life.
For fitness I’d like to maintain 3-4 workouts a week ALL YEAR long.
Winter Break Re-Commitment
I’ve been on Winter Break at work this week, but the students were out for the semester the week prior so it was easy to get out of the door on time and not have work stress on my mind.

I head back to work on ½, but the students don’t start back until the day after MLK weekend, so I get the first 2 weeks in January to not have to think much about work. I plan to leverage this time. Jan 1 a Monday, how perfect! That is my Weight Watchers FreeStyle kick-off day and I’m pumped.
PS – I got an air fryer for Christmas!!
My March 5K is in the books for my quest to run a 5K each month this year!
Challenge: 5K a month is ON
January: T, my friend Melissa, and I are registered for a 5K on Monday
February: Love the Run You’re with 5K that T and I will run with a bunch of friends the weekend before Valentine’s Day
March: Looking at a W&OD trail 5K at the end of March
April: TBD
May: Race for Hope DC – this was my 1st race ever and it will be my 8th year running!
June-Dec: TBD
Priorities
For most of last semester it was “hard” to make a 5:30 fitness class ~30-40 minutes away. This would involve me dressed and out the door around 4:45pm. My work is by no means strict about getting in/leaving work so long as you don’t have a meeting at that time, plus it’s not uncommon for us to have peak workloads – like for me it’s generally in the summer.
So last Tuesday and yesterday I was successful in making it to 5:30pm classes because I MADE IT A PRIORITY. Work and emails will always be there for me, but the class to is going to happen with or without me. The plan is to get to 5:30pm class today too. Tuesdays is Body Combat – which is a freakin’ hard and sweaty workout!
I’ve been able to workout daily since 12/29 (I had one rest day on Friday), but even before the few days off over the holidays I’ve been great with doing Shred since after Thanksgiving. A 30 minute DVD workout is still a workout and I’m making the choice that 30 min DVD and/30 min brisk walks on the treadmill are better than nothing on days when I can’t make a class or don’t have time for something longer than 30 min.
Twelve 5Ks?
I haven’t raced since May and haven’t even run since the middle of September, but my heel/Achilles/PF having been feeling better since I got all new shoes in October and took a complete rest from running.
I’ve walked a little on treadmills lately and today I decided to register for a 5K on MLK day that is a run/walk which is exactly what I plan to do – both run and walk. T also let me register him!
I have my annual Race for Hope 5K in May, but it got me thinking, could I commit to one official 5K race a month for 2017? I figured I might as well register for January before I officially commit.
Any favorite 5Ks in the great DC area you all recommend?
201(st)7
Got my 1st workout of 2017 in – Shred!
I also ended 2016 with 3 straight days of going to Body Pump class!
Big goals. Feeling good.
