A few minutes ago my boss and one of my co-workers asked me about my weekend plans (they are both in the 40s and married so they like to live vicariously through me). I filled them in somewhat and mentioned how Josh is pretty much leaving in a week. My boss was like “REALLY?!? I have someone waiting in the wings for you.” She said after a meeting like 2 months ago that her and I attended, SOMEONE asked her my “status.” She told him I was seeing someone, but now that, that is wrapping up she’s apparently going to let my admirer know. I didn’t ask who because I was too shocked. My sister’s first reaction (via gchat) was “the photographer that saw you drown i hope.” On the camping trip I went on in August for work we have a university photographer and videographer that came to chronicle portions of the trip. The guy was really cute (and tall) and during our lunch break while kayaking he started talking to me because I had a water bottle from my undergrad and he asked if I went there. His old roommate (who I knew of back then) had gone there too. Too bad soon after I WIPED out on the rapids in a VERY embarrassing manner. However he did come to my classroom last month to film me and my class as a follow up piece. And I saw him on campus a few weeks ago and we chatted briefly. Sadly I can’t find him on facebook because he has a common name much like me. SIGH However, based on timeline I don’t think it’s hunky camera man. I looked back on my work calendar from the past 2 months and I have some suspicions. I may casually ask my boss next week to spill the beans. EEEEE!

Last night I played in the first annual University100 Peer Advisor-Faculty Charity basketball game!
I haven’t played basketball since summer 2011, but I had a blast. Considering I supervise the faculty and supervise the Peer Advisors’ supervisor I was able to pretty much go into the game confident that no was was going to throw a ‘bow into my post wisdom teeth surgery face.
Due to recovery I did not play as fiercely as I usually do, but I was still a beast on defense. I was setting picks left and right, grabbed more a few rebounds, etc. We had 8 faculty play against 15 Peer Advisors and had about 75 students come out to watch (and bring at least 1 canned good item each).
In the end the Peer Advisors won 42-38, but it was a really a great game. I’m already looking forward to next year and it made me eager to buy another basketball so I can play more.
Nothing says “America” like getting a $25 parking ticket because you were late to work after you waited outside in the cold for 2+ hours to vote and parked in a 30 min spot so you could get to a meeting
This Week…
Yesterday I went to RPM class for the first time in a few weeks due to vacation and long hours in the office prior to vacation. However yesterday was my last Monday spin class until December since I’m teaching a freshmen seminar class on Monday nights starting in two weeks.
Speaking of my freshmen seminar class. I am taking my students CAMPING from Sun-Thurs. Have I mentioned that I’ve never been camping. Thankfully it won’t just be 18 students and me. I have my student Peer Advisor and a Trip Leader (who is a firefighter and probably could also fight a bear). I’m excited to kayak, hike, and rock climb, but sleeping on the ground not so much. This Thurs-Fri I am going on a retreat with my trip team and the other trip team who will be at a different camp site. I’m excited to get trained on rock climbing and kayaking. I also got re-certified in CPR and AED a few weeks ago in preparation for this trip
Oh and I saw Trainer Dan yesterday who had texted me right as I pulled into the gym parking lot asking where I’ve been (vacation). I won’t be able to go to any Trainer Dan classes until August 29th and I’ll only be able to do Wednesday classes since my Mondays are booked. However my excuses for missing Trainer Dan this week are valid:
- It’s restaurant week in DC and I’m going on Wednesday night for some $30 prix fixe fine dining!
- Yesterday I had date #5 with Josh – that chivalrous fellow I mentioned a few weeks ago 😉
Everyday should be bring your doggie to work day! My boss has her golden retriever here too.
Intuitive Eating Workshop
HR at work is offering an Intuitive Eating Workshop for free this week, so I signed up for it. The description says:
Intuitive eating is all about trusting your body and its signals when eating food. This session will define the concepts of intuitive eating and provide helpful techniques for successfully completing the intuitive eating program’s first steps. Join us for a seminar filled with intuitive knowledge that will help you reach your weight loss goals!
We shall see what I learn!
Coffee Walk
I’ve eaten lunch in my office ALL week, so today I walked to the Dunkin Donuts near campus for an iced coffee and back over my lunch break. Nice little 2.1 mile roundtrip jaunt and I got a coffee!
1st day
Hello from Virginia!
Sorry I’ve been MIA – I had Auburn stuff to wrap up, LOTS of packing, and then driving to Virginia.
Today was my first day at George Mason and it was awesome!
I am staying with a friend until I get the keys to my place (hopefully Wednesday) and then the movers should deliver my stuff late this week/early next week.
I miss you guys and wish I had time to write a Marathon wrap up, but hopefully soon!
Even though tomorrow is my last day at work I felt the need to decorate my office door!
Play to Win
I was at a work conference that had me up early on Friday and driving 1 of 3 vans of students to Charlotte.
Friday was a day of POOR eating, some of which I regret, some of which I didn’t. One thing I surely don’t regret is the “going away” dessert party at the Crepe Cellar in the NoDa district of Charlotte. AMAZING. We started with 4 orders of Pesto-Brie Fries and then all got crepes. Y-U-M!
However Saturday I woke up feeling huge from all the naughty things I ate the day before – and lots be honest Thursday was dangerous too.
So Saturday there were 6 blocks of educational sessions to go to on top of other meetings and events throughout the day. I brought running stuff with me and missed one event and ed session to run 8 miles. I changed in the rental van which was an experience. As I changed I realized I didn’t think to pack any GUs – I was stressed, but pushed myself out to run anyway despite being EXHAUSTED.
I don’t know how I literally ran, that’s how tiring these conferences are, but I did. Thankfully the UNC Charlotte’s campus and surround area had some PHENOMENAL running/biking trails. I really enjoyed the run and felt much less gross/bloated which improved my mood drastically!
My run was time crunched because I had to get back to watch 4 of my student present at education session. So I grabbed my bag from the rental van after and changed in the bathroom of the building. Somehow I managed to look somewhat presentable, but I’m pretty sure I was the smelly kid. Not that I care. I ran dammit.
I only have itty bitty baby runs this week leading up to THE MARATHON on Sunday. I have so much on my mind with work/moving/life that the Marathon is not overrunning (no pun intended) my thoughts, but I do want to make sure I’m able to focus and be ready for race day MENTALLY.
