So I just did about 35 minutes of yoga poses, lunges, planks, modified push ups, and stretches in the middle of the Toyota service area. Some people looked and an old man imitated me for a minute to which I responded “I’ve been sitting too long.” Mostly people didn’t care – not that I care. I worked up a nice little sweat and feel good about my productivity. I still plan to run this afternoon in one of my new dri fit tanks I got on clearance! *correction from yesterday’s post I got 3 tops yesterday not 2 for $2.88 each and they are all fab – perhaps pics later

A work out at the body shop?
I’m sitting in the waiting area of the Toyota service department for my 30,000 inspection/tune up and an oil change.
I took the morning off of work to do this because I don’t have time otherwise, plus I could use a break from the craziness that is work right now.
Originally I was going to wear running clothes and run while they worked on my car – I scrapped that decision because I wanted to go to yoga tonight which I now realize was stupid. I’ve been here an hour or so and should be here another hour. I’m strongly contemplating doing lunges, crunches and planks in the waiting area. It’s all ladies waiting and I’m in basically work out clothes (minus sneakers and a sports bra).
I’ll keep you posted!
Wish Me Luck!
After much consideration I realized I really need to get a part time job to supplement my income and help pay for my addiction to finish lines. With that being said I decided to apply for jobs at sporting goods and apparel stores. So tonight I applied on-line for jobs at Academy Sports, Dicks Sporting Goods and Hibbett Sports. At Dicks I actually applied to be a “running specialist.”
As much as it pains my ego to have a masters degree and still feel like I don’t make enough money I think this would be a great compromise. I would be able to interact with (hopefully) athletic people AND get an employee discount.
So well wishes, luck and positives vibes are needed.
To get me in the mood to apply I went to Academy and did some shopping (despite the fact that I need said part time job because I need money, but I had a crappy week and needed to cheer myself up, plus I could really use all of this stuff). My purchases include:
- Padded cycling shorts
- 4 pairs of dri fit socks
- Dri fit compression tights (I may return them because honestly it’s still too damn hot here to wear them anytime soon)
- 2 dri fit running tops on clearance for $2.88 each
- Puma short sleeve running hoodie on clearance for $2.88
- Goggles, nose clip, swim cap (#Triathlontraining)
- Ear buds (dog chewed on old ones that still work, but worried about them not working for my half marathon)
- Various Energy Gels
FYI: all apparel items were LARGEs – goodbye XL forever 🙂
Triathlon Club
I’ve casually mentioned wanting to train for a Triathlon and I really want to, but I was concerned about training and also finding pool time. Well a few weeks ago on campus a number of the student organizations were lined up outside for Organization Days and I saw a table for a Triathlon Club. I was headed to a meeting so I couldn’t stop to talk. I kept meaning to look up information on them and this morning I finally did.
The club is open to students, faculty, staff (that’s me) and even the community. They have varying practices like 6 days a week. I sent an email/inquiry through their website and got a response within an hour. The guy seemed really nice and inviting. He told me about a group thati s training for a full marathon and suggested I join them and also to come to swim practices because there are a lot of beginners that go. So that means I need to buy some legit swim gear this week because I’d love to go next week.
I’m really excited (and scared in a good way)!
I found these pictures from my Labor Day 5K online.
Nothing says sexy quite like sweaty, still shots of you in motion. haha
The intervals suck without the Sound of Music
I wasn’t sure if I was going to work out or rest today so this morning I didn’t pack a gym bag.
At lunch I decided I was going to work out after work. Packed my gym bag with the plan to either run or go to spin.
Well I forgot my ipod and brought the wrong shoes for spin and no towel.
The old me would have went home.
Instead I went to the gym and ran without music for 4 miles of intervals and then did some ab work. Wasn’t terrible, but I missed my music.
PS – the intention of my title was to be sung a la “The hills are alive with the Sound of Music”
Accomplishments of Friends
One interesting change in my life thanks to my new health and fitness lifestyle is the different types of conversations I have with some of my friends.
I now have people share with me their mileage, their pace, their hopes to run a race, etc.
I love being able to be someone my friends can turn to for support, encouragement and advice when it comes to exercise and good food choices.
Today is a day for 12s
First 12 miles, now this.
I did some window shopping this afternoon and I fit in SIZE 12 pants from Ann Taylor Loft!!!!
What? Seriously?
The 14s were stupid big and the 12s would be a perfect fit in like less than 5 pounds.
I didn’t buy either because I have enough dress pants…but soon.
10s I’m coming for you…
12 Miles – CHECK
I am currently sopping wet from my run which was midday in 92 degree Alabama heat (not my best planning). I walked a bit more than I would have liked, but between the heat and some dehydration yesterday (I blame attending/screaming at a stellar football game that went in OT) and running with energy gels for the first time (I almost threw up when I had the first one…yuck, but the second one went down a bit smoother later in the run). I would say it wasn’t an all together bad run, but I know I can do better. I really pumped to run in New York weather for my half – battling the heat is always the hardest for me.
Distance: 12.25 miles
Time: 2:31:33
Pace: 12:22 min/mile
Calories burned: 1718
12 miles or bust
I’m gearing up to head out on my longest run -12 miles- before tapering for my half in 2 weeks. I’m so excited for this run and proud of myself that I could cry tears of pure joy.
See you in 12 miles 🙂
