Winter Break Re-Commitment

I’ve been on Winter Break at work this week, but the students were out for the semester the week prior so it was easy to get out of the door on time and not have work stress on my mind.

I head back to work on ½, but the students don’t start back until the day after MLK weekend, so I get the first 2 weeks in January to not have to think much about work. I plan to leverage this time. Jan 1 a Monday, how perfect! That is my Weight Watchers FreeStyle kick-off day and I’m pumped.

PS – I got an air fryer for Christmas!!

Words & Thoughts…

Out of the blue this morning I had a string of thoughts that started with the lady who interviewed me for the Urban Hiking gig. I wondered…

…if she thought I was in good enough shape to teach a Health & Fitness class.

…was she expecting someone of my “size” to interview for the job (which I got).

…what is my “size” ?

…was my body type a non-issue because I was “normal” – did I warrant to be thought of as normal?

…at what point would “my size” be viewed as normal versus fat or big or my very least favorite “bigger” which I feel people use to not seem like THEY aren’t being as harsh when describing someone.

…what is the first thing people notice about me? That I’m tall? I almost would hope I’m seen as tall first over being seen as “fat” or “big” – in my college days I used to control that narrative subconsciously by wearing pretty revealing tops, so the first thing people noticed were my big boobs. My chest was like a weird security blanket for SO many years. In fact one of my best friends brought up how low cut my shirts used to be and how I dress more conservatively now (it is funny we did go out to a bar on Saturday night to dance for my friends birthday with a bunch of girls and I wore a shirt that was cute to me vs one that was “dance club cute”) and that is a definite shift that even I’ve noticed over the years.

It both surprises and doesn’t surprise me when my deep seeded insecurities rear its ugly head. I’ve been feeling “slender” lately. My body is changing, I’ve been working out 5-6x a week, and keeping up with Weight Watchers. My clothes fit differently, but more so I know I’m carrying myself differently.

I know we cannot control how people view us, I only have control over how I view myself.

Urban Hiking

Woohoo I interviewed and got an offer to teach an Urban Hiking (HFIT 196) class this spring. It’s a 6 week, one-credit Saturday class with up to 12 students. I get to take them on various DC trails and introduce the necessary hiking skills and concepts to hike for outdoor travel or as a recreational fitness activity. Content will cover fitness for hiking, route planning, proper clothing and gear, safety concerns, and environmental conditions.

I’m PUUUUMPED

I had a pretty solid 1st half of the week fitness-wise: long walks x3, body pump x2, and pilates. The rest of the week is more fun-filled so less time for fitness

Tonight: My bestie S is visiting for the night from Baltimore and we’re going to binge season 3 of Fuller House (per our tradition).

Tomorrow: Headed to Raleigh to visit my old roommate A. Also my boo, David Cook, has a show in Raleigh tomorrow night so it’s a double win.

Sat: Tailgating, Pool, girl time.

Sun: Head back home and hopefully get a long walk in.

Weekend Plans

Tonight I’m using an Open Table $20 reward voucher at a restaurant that a lot of people love, but we had a meh experience with. Still, it was the closest and most reasonably priced option I could use the reward at. So we’ll see.

Tomorrow the plan is to wake up early enough to get to Body Combat class at 9:30 then I have a noon hair appointment. I keep wanting to CHOP all my hair off because it is SO long, but I’m going to have her put it in a bunch of layers and see if that helps weigh me down less! We also have a friend’s housewarming party to go to tomorrow – we haven’t seen the couple since their wedding in May so it will be nice.

Sunday Lazy morning with T since he’ll be out of town for work most of next week. I also want to get a long walk in with Freddie and maybe yoga. Then I plan to do some Home Goods/TJ Maxx shopping in downtown Silver Spring before going to see HANSON (yes, THAT, Hanson) in concert with a friend. My sister was supposed to come, but her company just got sold/changed hands and she didn’t want to ask for time off so soon. Luckily my work friend who gave me the final push to join Weight Watchers is a music junkie and she’s pumped to come!

Monday Womp

We spent the weekend visiting T’s friends in Pittsburgh which meant Primanti Bros sandwiches, pierogis, booze, and brunch. It definitely could have been worse, but it also could have been better.

Fortunately, we did a TON of walking on Saturday which helped, but I haven’t been to the gym since Wednesday. Gotta stay on top of things this week.

As of today, I’m wearing my new Fit Bit Charge 2 – it told me my cardio fitness is “Average-Good” (34-38) so clearly, I want to be firmly in “Good” and tracking toward “Very Good.”
